Seva is my favorite type of yoga. It is the yoga of selfless service and I find it to be the most transformational type of yoga there is. In the fall of 2010 I took my first seva trip to Nepal where I volunteered for an organization called Nepal Orphan's Home. I spent two months in Nepal volunteering in various aspects and in association with the orphanage. While there I taught english to young Tibhetan buddhist nuns in the remote monastery, Bigu, near the border of Tibet. I also worked with a couple of organizations, Shakti Samuha and CAP Nepal who focus on gender-based violence. I formed a very strong bond with the women of Shakti Samuha and CAP Nepal and ended up taking a 2nd seva trip back to Nepal in March of 2011 to film a documentary about gender-based violence in Nepal with CAP.
I continue my practice of Seva by working as a volunteer with CAP Nepal. These women hold a special place in my heart and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with them to make Nepal a kinder and safer place for women.
